Jobs Propaganda, Argh
Are you still buying the government’s propoganda that the economy is improving and that the job situation in this country is improving as expected by the administration? Come on people, pay attention.
Did I ever mention how much I despise politicians?
Lewis Carroll’s Scrapbook
Lewis Carroll’s Scrapbook. The Library of Congress has digitized this and published the collection online. I’ll return to this later to look through…
Aggglllll
Here’s a little bit of high school nostalgia. My fall play performed at my high school during my junior year was The Good Doctor by Neil Simon. The play is a collection of short scenes, each telling a different, unrelated story. Here you can view Bryan perform in The Seducer and me perform in The Drowned Man.
Tomorrow I’ll also put up The Sneeze so you can see M-D in the funniest scene of the play.
I would upload the scene called The Arrangement so you can see Darren’s paternal tendencies as they were early on, but unfortunately the video tape was not long enough to record the entire scene. The files are all QuickTime movie files, optimized for streaming on a 100 kbps connection. You can also save the files to your hard drive rather than stream.
You should also take note of Kelly Hutchinson who appears in The Seducer. You may know her from such films as Catch Me If You Can, TV shows as Strangers With Candy and Law and Order: SVU, and the Broadway stage in various roles.
UPDATE: This just in! See M-D get soaked in The Sneeze!
Drum Corps, the Motion Picture
I got back a little while ago from a movie theater where Drum Corps International quarterfinals was being shown live from Denver, Colorado. There were some technical difficulties in the beginning, which is to be expected for a first ever event like this (a “cinecast” is what they called it), but it turned out to be a great show. I’m debating buying a few tickets to next year’s championships in Foxboro, Massachusetts right now… and figure out who I’d be going with as next summer draws nearer.
This was a pretty good year for drum corps, with some interesting shows, including The Cadets’ Jethro Tull and The Cavaliers’ James Bond—not your typical fare. I amazed myself by pretty accurately predicting some scores and placements after the corps’ performances (and you can ask Stacey for verification of that statement).
By the way, that photograph of The Cavaliers is from tonight, courtesy of DCI. Isn’t the internet great? Favorite (ironic) quote of the night:
A “backstage” interview with a member of The Cavaliers following their performance of the James Bond Show.
CUTE GIRL: So, I probably shouldn’t ask this, but how exactly does one become a “Bond girl?”
CAVALIER: I’ll show you later.
Extermination is the Best Policy
Just to follow up on an earlier posting, the creators of the Daleks have reached an agreement with the BBC. That means that the new Doctor Who series will be able to feature those evil extraterrestrial menaces.

Researching a New Path
I just ordered The Official LSAT SuperPrep from Amazon.com. I’ve been thinking about law school for a few years, but I’m going to look into it more seriously in the next few months. Going to law school is something that would definitely benefit me as a human being, but would I enjoy it? I’m not sure yet. It’s going to be a hell of a lot of work, especially if I maintain a job at the same time. I believe I’m more than capable, and it would be good for me to be in an environment where I really have to work hard.
Weekend Wrap-Up
First of all, some kind of terror threat has been issued specifically for the building in which I work—the building from which I am posting this message. They added some barriers around the building… and handed out a security bulletin that tells us to keep our wallets safe. I suppose if there are terrorists, they’re going to be roaming the office, looking for wallets and purses to steal.
So my weekend was awesome. Sparing you, the reader, all the nicer details, I had dinner in New York City, caught Avenue Q on Broadway, had dessert at the wonderful Ellen’s Stardust Diner, went to a Yankees game, where they beat the Orioles 2 to 1 (but I wasn’t sure who I should be rooting for), had dessert again—this time at Cafe Lalo on the Upper West Side (a location featured in the critically-acclaimed You’ve Got Mail), watched every installment of Celebrity Jeopardy from Satuday Night Live, drove to Connecticut where I toured a little bit of New Haven, New London and Mystic (including the Custom House Maritime Museum), had the best lobster sandwich ever, and drove home via Queens. There were a bunch of movies thrown in there, as well.
I suppose it’s time to resume to regular life… although I will still keep trying to have more great weekends. I’m happy Barb and Melodie visited, and I hope we can make more plans soon.
This whole “making the most of life” thing is very important to me, especially if the Department of Homeland Security (errr… I mean terrorists) is coming after me in my workplace.
Drum Corps on the Big Screen
I just bought two tickets to a special event at a movie theater (Regal Cinemas) in New Brunswick: Drum Corps Quaterfinals on the Big Screen. Here’s the information. It’s Thursday, August 5, at 7:00 pm. It’s the only location in New Jersey where it is playing. Anyone want to go? (I can get more tickets as of now if people are interested.)
