Wilkommen, Bienvenue

Monday night has apparently been “Broadway show night” for the past two weeks. Last night I saw Cabaret at the famous Studio 54, courtesy of Brian’s roommate who works at Video Hits One. I had seen a production of it back in college (it was put on by the E-52 Student Theatre Company) so I knew about the show… Denise seemed surprised that it was all about sex and Nazis. So was the father in front of us who brought his daughter and three of her friends.

John Stamos played the emcee (and was undoubtedly the reason the kids in front of us came to see the show) and it was directed by Sam Mendes who you may remember from such films as Road to Perdition and American Beauty.

The Funniest

One of the funniest things I’ve seen on television lately (besides Whose Line Is It Anyway) was a news segment promo. It was probably Fox, and it went a little like this:

TONIGHT, on FOX NEWS at 10!

MEDIA HYPE! Has media finally gone too far?

Tune in for our SHOCKING EXPOSE on MEDIA HYPE!

I’m probably missing the funny bits in my “re-enactment” here, but trust me, it was funny.

Tomorrow

The sun will rise, as it does every day. Life moves… hopefully forward. Tomorrow’s horoscope:

Today is definitely not made for you to drown in self-pity, dear Pisces, so get up and go have some fun. You will find that laughter is the best remedy for your fluctuating emotions, and you will find that this laughter is abundant once you let yourself fall into the right frame of mind. Adopt a mantra that reminds you to smile on yourself internally. Shed light on your inside so that you may radiate even brighter on the outside.

It’s Friday

I don’t have much to say today… except maybe that work on my Project is going along nicely; if you’re interested in beta-testing, and interested in marching band, contact me. I also wanted to say this, for no particular reason:

What if I’d been born fifty years before you
In a house on the street where you lived?
Maybe I’d be outside as you passed on your bike.
Would I know?
And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair I recognize
And I know that I am the luckiest.

Bad News For NJ Drivers

E-ZPass will be charging NJ drivers $1.00/mo for their service, and will possibly reduce the toll discounts. While it’s still a better deal than paying the tolls cash (unless the driver uses less than a few times per month), it’s still unfortunate. The article makes some points about how Gov. Whitman’s administrated mismanaged the entire operation. I’m glad I don’t drive anymore…

Well, not completely glad.

Ah. A House Of Heavenly Peace.

Denise, her brother Kevin, and his girlfriend Steph, and I saw Rent last night on Broadway. I had already seen it once on Broadway and once in Baltimore, but that was several years ago. In fact, I probably wouldn’t have gone this time if I had to pay for the tickets.

Anyway, it was very cool, in fact they’ve even made slight changes to some of the music, some of the book, and some of the staging. The cast wasn’t as good as the cast I saw on Broadway the last time… which was confirmed by our waiter at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, where we went afterwards. When we arrived, the waitstaff even sang a song from Rent for us. (Yes, this is a diner where the waiters and waitresses sing karaoke show tunes. Unfortunately they don’t allow the customers to participate, like they do at Show Place in Beach Haven, NJ.)

It’s The End Of The World

The Earth will “Expire” by 2050, and the leader of our country doesn’t seem to care. After all, why should he? By 2050 he (most likely) won’t be alive so it really has no effect on him, does it?

The article talks about colonizing other planets by 2050 as the only other option if we refuse to stop consuming so much, but continues to say that colonization will probably not even be an option by 2050. If it were, my guess is the amount of resources per person needed to support life on the journey to the planet to be colonized is just as much, if not more, than the amount needed for them to survive the same amount of time on Earth anyway.

Of course, if we have developed Star Trek-like replicators, we would be able to go easy on our resources in space. In fact, if we have replicators we might as well just stay on Earth. Apparently replicators won’t exist until the early 24th century. But I digress…
