Well, it’s over — done with.
I stayed awake all night. Bryan, who decided to go with me, took a nap. I woke him up at about 2:15 a.m. (he overslept) so we could leave by 2:45. We got to the meeting place at about 3:45 (not bad time — it helps when there are no other cars on the road). After some hassling with several parking garages, we stood outside on the streets of New York for a while.
Eventually, my co-workers showed up and Bryan left to find a spot for maximum visibility in the Today Show crowd. I started welcoming all the high school students when they arrived. A little after 6:00, the rehearsals started. During the day I met some nice people who worked for VH-1 as well as some other nice people who worked for the Today Show. In making these friends, one of the producers of the Today show said she would guarantee that Bryan’s sign gets on TV. (Something about a contest…)
Around 7:00 am, the program started the live broadcast. The show opened with a close-up of Bryan with his sign. Amazing! Later, [DELETED]. After the ending of the show, the students from the different schools left to go on their own tours of the city, or whatever else they had planned for the day.
Meanwhile, I went back to my office, where I am now attempting to work. I’m finding it fairly difficult to stay awake. I think I might sleep well tonight — in such a way that I haven’t slept for maybe almost a year.
