Apartment Update

I’ve made some progress in the search for a new place to live. Rent.net found me someone who has an apartment and is looking for a roommate in Jersey City. I called up the guy and we set some time on Monday to meet so he can show me the place. The rent would be either $400/mo for one bedroom or $650/mo if I buy out the second of three bedrooms. I’d probably buy out the other bedroom — I think I can afford that. I’d still be paying a lot in tolls to and from work to live in Jersey City, but I’d be spending less money on gasoline.

Isn’t It Nice

It’s nice to come home to someone who pays attention to you and wants to pay attention to you. It’s nice to come home to someone who will sit in your lap and look up at you with cute eyes. I like coming home to someone who you can cuddle with and who wants you to scratch them behind their ears. It’s nice coming home to someone who licks your hand and nibbles on you lightly. It’s nice coming home to someone who will purr when you hold them. Yes, I’m really going to miss my roommate’s cat when I move out… I’d get my own if I thought I’d be home enough to take care of one.

That Time Of Year… Again

My apartment lease runs out at the end of April, and I will be moving out. Is anyone out there looking for a roommate? I could use one. I could also use a new place to live, if you have one of those, too. Somewhere between Lawrenceville and Bergenfield would be best. Also, it would have to be something fairly inexpensive. I am not a fan of searching for apartments.

On a completely unrelated note, I’ve added a search box to my journal (over there on the right). It only works for entries since my last redesign. Also, stick your email address in the box above the search form to be added to my website update notification list. I don’t write to it often, but it’s something you do not want to miss out on.

Balance

They say you should always know your audience. I realize that this website has an audience much larger than my small group of friends. I know that students I have taught or worked with in some form or another read this site. I know my co-workers visit once in a while. I know that some day, maybe a potential employer will decide to check my references and might find this website. For those reasons, I do not write about everything I think about. In fact, you could say that I almost censor myself very slightly. When people respond publicly to what I write, unfortunately sometimes they don’t realize they can easily make themselves look unintelligent, and bring me down in the process.

When I ran a dial-up bulletin board system in high school, it was similar. Everything everyone posted was a reflection on both their own person and myself. I did a pretty good job of maintaining the level of maturity — in fact the “regulars” liked my system since it was free of all the pettiness and immaturity of the other BBS’s around.

These days, there is even less of a separation between the “online” world and the “real” world. Web sites are more public than dial-up BBS’s. You don’t have to be “a member” to read the messages. We don’t use “handles;” for the most part everyone knows us by our real names. I like having fun, just I don’t want to deal with immature comments. It reflects poorly on everyone. Many readers won’t know what I’m talking about, since I have deleted the offending post and the associated comments. I could have just deleted the offending comments from the posts and pretend they were never there, but I really wanted to say this. Thanks for reading.

By the way, I saw the movie 15 Minutes earlier tonight with Becca. It was the first time I’d been to a movie theater in a long time. It had a lot to say about media, especially television. We all know the message already though.

And Yet, More Music On The Mind

Last night, while driving home from dinner at my father’s house, I heard the New York Philharmonic on the radio, premiering Cello Concerto #2 (Through The Ancient Valley) by Richard Danielpour, with Yo-Yo-Ma performing. I was really impressed by the piece. However, it’s not out on CD yet, because it was a world premier, and technology isn’t that quick yet. If you want to hear Danielpour’s first cello concerto, which I am interested in doing, you can get this CD.

Frisbee and Music

It’s really nice outside today. Unfortunately it’s Friday so I won’t be outside playing frisbee to enjoy it. Maybe if tomorrow is just as nice, I’ll get a chance to grab someone and play a little.

Also, Ali has been trying to get an a cappella group together for a while now. Tonight was to be our first meeting to discuss what we want to do, but unfortunately she had to cancel. Now I’m plan-less for a Friday night.
