The Thing

The thing about vacationing in this area of the country is, for me, it makes me think of the last vacation I took with a former girlfriend. So it brings back a lot of interesting memories and thoughts about how things are today. There are several times a day I wish there were a way for me to ask for forgiveness again, but without bringing back any upsetting memories for her.

So that’s where it stands. And when my mother asks if I still talk to her, I have to say no. (Then she asks why and what happened, and I have to explain it again, and then I think it would be nice to stop punishing myself.)

Anyway, there are a lot of amazing things about the time I’m spending in California. Palm Desert. Joshua Tree. Wonderful hotel and food. All paid for. My family’s great… but something is missing.

New Doctor Who

Thanks to M-D, I was able to watch the first three episodes of the new Doctor Who BBC television programme. I was supposed to wait until my flight to California before watching the show, but you know me and instant gratification. Even though I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who since I was five years old, I can say from an unbiased point of view that it was good. Very good, even. It has the potential for being a great show.

Yes. The effects were a little cheesy, but that’s the Doctor Who I know and love. Rose, the new “companion,” is wicked cute. (She’s played by Billie Piper.)

If I were five years old again — or ten — watching this show I would be just as intrigued as I was when I was that age and saw some of the best classic Tom Baker episodes. Like the classics, from the point of view of a pre-teen thinker, I think the series would appear a little scary, a little fun, and would even have some parts that make you think about space, time and other cool science topics.

One positive: the sonic screwdriver is back! One negative: the interior design of the TARDIS.

I hope the show runs for another 42 years.

Paris Hilton Does It

Hot on the heels of Flexo’s podcast announcement, Paris Hilton wants to jump in the game. Yes, Paris Hilton is offering her own podcast leading up to some movie she’s unfortunately in. “Join Paris and friends as she shops, parties, poses and publicizes in the days leading up to the May 6 opening of House of Wax.

Developments

It’s finally starting to get nice outside. Today it was 74 degrees and the forecast tomorrow is similar. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much chance to enjoy it so far. Leaving work at 6:00 pm tonight seemed like a gift, but when working in the office for ten hours feels like going home early, there’s a problem. Most of the time I’ve been staying much later.

You see, I work with two other people in our tiny department, so the three of us share a manager. My two co-workers both quit in the last few days, due, for the most part, to the manager. They gave their two weeks’ notice and have no interest or desire to get work done, even though they know they’re making things harder on me.

I won’t talk much more about work, but it’s going to be an interesting two weeks. Luckilly, I’ll be leaving for California next Friday for a week of relaxation and family time in Joshua Tree. Apparently there’s a Swedish massage waiting for me — one of those professional ones. It’s the perfect prescription for the stress in my life right now.

I’ll come home in time for Passover with the other side of the family.
