This Is Me Some Mornings

When you wake up in the morning and have that groggy disposition, you’re no better than drunk. “That befuddled feeling usually lasts for at least a few minutes but may be detectable for up to two hours.” Apparently, I’m a drunk driver every morning.

“There is evidence that the cortical areas of the brain thought to be responsible for problem-solving, complex thought and emotions take longer to wake up than other parts of the brain.”

South By Southwest

I talked to Jessa tonight and I think she might have convinced me to go to Austin at the same time as the South by Southwest Festivals and Conferences. The conference itself is mighty expensive, but the word on the street is it’s good to go just to be in town while the conference is going on, even if you don’t get to go to the sessions.

I’d really like to do the sessions however, but I don’t think my job will pay for me, and I know I can’t afford it.

In any case, here are some questions for my readers. What can be done in Austin during the week of the festival without going to the conference? Where do people stay? Anyone from “here” want to go?

By The Way

In case you’re wondering, pollo in Italian isn’t pronounced the same way as pollo in Spanish… In Spanish the double-l is pronounced like a y, while in Italian it’s pronounced like a double-l, as written. I don’t know why people continue to try to convince me otherwise.

Exthpect the Unexthpected

Interesting, that. I was just offered a position on the Board of Directors for a drum corps-related organization. It’s a volunteer (non-paid) position with a very small time committment, which is good. Let’s leave it at that so I don’t further breach anonymity here. I didn’t expect to get the position, so it’s a nice surprise. I wonder if there were any other applicants…

In related-only-because-it’s-also-about-drum-corps news, The Cadets are learning the “theme” to Kill Bill (aka. Battle Without Honor or Humanity by Tomoyasu Hotei) this coming weekend.

How Nice

How nice of Rupert to leave me multiple presents throughout the carpet. There’s nothing I wanted to do at 3:00am more than to clean yucky stuff. It’s good to come home to love.

Heed the Warning

Heavy use of computers may be linked to the development of a progressive eye disease, researchers claim.

A study in Japan has found that staring at a screen could be related to glaucoma, which can lead to blindness.

The study links computer use with glaucoma. After sitting at a computer almost all day long at work and coming home to often spend more hours on the computer, I should pay attention to this. At my last eye exam, I was told I had 20/20 vision, but that’s a step down. More than ten years ago, the doctors said I had better than 20/20 vision. I don’t want glasses or contacts, much less a disease.
