Blast Again!

So after a few years of procrastination, I finally saw Blast! last night in Philadelphia. We even dragged Darren along. He wrote a little about his impressions so I won’t duplicate that here. My favorite part of the show was probably just the fact that the entire brass line was so well in tune (intonation). When you’re perfectly in tune, certain chords and unisons can create such wonderful harmonics. (That’s when you hear more notes in a chord than are actually being played because of the way the vibrations in the air match together so perfectly, they create more vibrations…)

I can’t wait to go see Blast II: Shockwave when it comes out.

  1. Harmonics exist when a single instrument plays alone, too. All sounds have harmonics. It’s just a matter of actually hearing them, and when that many instruments play together in tune with eachother, they’re much easier to hear. 🙂
