After the Shaggy Rogers Project

After the Shaggy Rogers Project concert last night, nine of us headed to Denny’s (the only place open at 2:30 a.m.) to take care of our hunger. I arrived first — the place was packed! Usually this time it’s quieted down, but not last night for some reason. The manager was there to take my request for a table of nine. I could tell that he was tired and a little frustrated. He told me it would probably take around twenty minutes for a table and that they were short on kitchen staff so it could be a slow process in all.

The rest of the crowd arrived not too much later, and amazingly our table was ready in about five minutes. The place was sill packed, and more people kept coming in. This is crazy, we thought. We’re not getting out of here till at least 5:30, if we get our food by then! From that point on, the whole night was mystical:

After five minutes of us looking at our menus and chatting, the waitress came by and took our orders. Five minutes later, drinks came around. Maybe seven or eight minutes later, food! It was amazing!

Maybe the manager lied. Maybe there was a huge corps of cooks in the kitchen and he just wanted to lower our expectations. Maybe all the other customers got ignored because we were special. It was truly the best service experience I’ve had at that place. Needless to say, we left a healthy tip for the waitress — the same waitress we had problems with last time we were there.
