Weekend Update

It’s been another busy weekend for me. I need a vacation, even though I just had one. When did I go to California? The middle of April? It seems like such a long time ago.

Warning: This is a long post. Read at your own risk. I haven’t really updated much on what I’ve been doing with my time, so here’s a “glance” at my weekend, since weekdays are generally full of nothing but work and class.

Friday night I wrote my portion of a paper for my economics class. This stuff is so incredibly uninspiring. I have respect and sympathy for those who make the study of this top their living. That took my Friday night away from me.

On Saturday, I went to New York to spend time with Amy in her town. Normally she comes to visit me since my schedule is a little crazier than hers (though she is quite busy as well), so I owe her a few visits. After fixing her and her sister‘s computer (which will hopefully stay fixed), I met some of her friends (who were friendly, intelligent, and happy people), had some Rita’s “water ice,” and went to Shea Stadium to see a Mets game.

The game was delayed over an hour due to rain. We had very good field-level seats (right behind the boxes) in right field. These seats happened to be unprotected from weather, so were soaked. The rain lasted almost an hour and a half, and we probably sat in it for about an hour of that. It was only drizzling most of the time, but running for cover with hundreds of other people from the sections around us didn’t seem appealing to me.

So, we got wet. The game started and most of it wasn’t very exciting. The Mets played the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who were ahead by one run for most of the game. The Mets tied it up in the bottom of the ninth with an inside-the-park home run. Then the Angels scored in the top of the tenth.

In the bottom, Cliff Floyd came to bat for the Mets with two outs and two men on base. The count progressed to three balls and two strikes, and Floyd was hitting every pitch foul, I suppose to keep the game going. He hit one that landed in our general direction and I mentioned to Amy that he needed to hit one right “there,” as I pointed at the scoreboard.

Sho’ ’nuff, he did — right where I pointed. He hit a three-run homer and the Mets won, as I said they would all along.

Back to the weekend. Today, I saw Becca who happened to be home for her dad’s birthday. After two strikes we finally found a sushi place that was open. After lunch, we spent some time with Darren, Ali, Cindi, Stacey, and M-D.

I left to take Becca back to her father’s house and we spent some time talking with him and Barbara. After arriving back to my apartment, I started my laundry and Michelle stopped by for a quick dinner. We ate and talked for a bit before she left, but now I have another paper for my economincs class to finish, due tomorrow night at midnight.

Hopefully this will satisfy those who say I need to write more about what’s going on in my life. The good thing is that I’m way too busy to have time to be anything other than happy.

  1. Not that I think you actually care, but fouling off balls during an at-bat not only extends the game, but also wears down the pitcher and each pitch gives the batter a better sense of what the pitcher has. Anyway, yay, baseball!

  2. Not only does it wear out the pitcher, but it also wears out the spectators. But the three-run homer made up for that. There was more cheering at that moment I’ve ever seen at a baseball game. Even the cute girl in the seat in front of us — a Jose Reyes fan (it was his birthday) — turned around to give me and Amy high fives.

So the Jose Ryes fan had a home-made happy birthday sign and they showed her (and us, sort of) on the Jumbotron. Woohoo.
