Internal Monologue

So, what music do I like? What have I listened to lately? I can’t seem to think of any music I’ve really enjoyed in the past several months. Am I still a musician? I don’t even know.

I should have taken that job I was pretty much offered in May 1999. I had a great interview for an assistant band director position at a high school in south Jersey. He asked if I’d be available over the summer to start. Instead of saying YES, I mentioned something about a commitment I made to a drum and bugle corps to drive a van for a few months, which I would break IF I got the job. If I had just said YES… my life would have been so much different if I had been less stupid.

Well, you live, you learn, and here I am.

  1. Wilco rocks! Drums and Tuba is pretty good too, but they’re hard to find. Modest Mouse is also very good.

And don’t berate yourself about one little word. It may not have been anything within your control. Besides, we all make bad decisions you just have to learn from them.

This is what I tell myself at least when I remember what an idiot I’ve been.

  2. Yeah, you don’t know that what you said was the cause of anything. You were honest, and that was important. Things generally happen for a reason, so don’t waste time thinking about what might have been.
