My fall season has ended, and I bet I know at least one person who’s happy about that…
I saw the new Steve Martin movie, Shop Girl today. It wasn’t my favorite Steve Martin movie, and it put me in the mood to watch ¡Three Amigos! More importantly, we saw the trailer for The Producers. I wish I had seen that on Broadway with the original cast… or any cast, for that matter.
I didn’t see it on Broadway (much less with the original cast), but I did see “The Producers” and was definitely not blown away. The songs, other than “Springtime for Hitler,” weren’t impressive at all. It’s enjoyable enough, but it’s not the Best Musical Evah! as they would have you believe.
Broadway is mostly a rip-off these days. It simply isn’t worth the money they charge for the quality of show/performance you get. I recently saw Spamalot (I didn’t pay for the tickets) and while it was good, I never would have gone had I had to pay for it. It simply wasn’t worth the ticket price. And that’s a GOOD show! Can you imagine paying those sorts of prices for garbage like Dirty Rotten Scoundrels???
well they just ruined that movie by sticking will ferrell in it. ugh. i really don’t like him…..
and yes i agree broadway is to much $, but i still like going every once in a while for the cheapy seats, or when i’m not paying….
i liked the production of the producers i saw here in baltimore. the seats were rediculously uncomfy, but the show was good. and i agree, will ferrell is a tad too over the top for this. and since when can uma thurman sing? then again, i had no idea the lady playing mimi in rent could sing either…
Well, Ferrell’s character is a bit over the top in the story, so maybe it will work. I’ve always hated him, too, but I saw something recently that almost changed my mind.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Darren Reid Sussman. There’s some initial synergy going on there…
D’OH!
