Last year, I paid $52.89 for my health insurance every other week. This year, I will be paying $61.15 for the same benefits. That’s almost a 16% increase. I’m not going to be getting a 16% raise; at least, I highly doubt it. Part of me wants to be thankful that I have any health insurance at all, but that part of me is barely on talking terms with the other part of me.
The good news is that all employees of my company are reimbursed a partial amount for health insurance payments. The bad news is the amount of reimbursement didn’t increase 16% from last year. It increased 0%.
I don’t have benefits. At this point, because the wife changed jobs, neither does she or my son. To get benefits for the family from her new job, because it’s a NY plan, would be $1000 per month, our contribution.
My workplace is looking for benefits now, but because my boss can’t afford to pay into a plan for us more than 10%, I’m looking at paying in the neighborhood of $650 or so per month for benefits. And a shitty HMO, at that.
Wow. That’s completely insane. The price of health care is ridiculous. It’s too bad most people in this country have jobs like mine where you don’t realize the true cost of health care. Perhaps if everyone had to pay $650 to $1000 a month, there would be some reform.
then there’s people like me that pay absolutely nothing…….
Remember what I told you back in October? My GUL tripled! My benies went up by $800 this year… for the same coverage levels!!!
I guess we are lucky to have them at all…
I feel blessed by the fact that Ali works for a school and has such wonderful health coverage. Especially with the new baby. I was talking with another father who had a child in the special care nursery today, and he said that he got a look at the bill that they’re running up (paid by insurance) and between the nursery and the delivery, it comes out to about $7000 PER DAY. And their baby will probably be in that nursery for at least 15 days. That’s just nuts.
