Good News, Everyone

Sony is releasing a new box set entitled Songs from the Street: 35 Years of Music. It’s not apparent from the title, but this is a Seasme Street 3-CD compilation, containing some really classic remastered tracks like Ladybugs Picnic, People in the Neighborhood, and Mah Na Mah Na. The good news is that it also contains Pinball Number Count by the Pointer Sisters. This song is the funkiest funk ever funked on Seasme Street. It’s an awesome track and I’ve only ever been able to find poor quality mp3s of it, probably recorded off a poor quality VHS tape.

One-two-three-four-five-six-seven-eight-nine-ten-eleven-twelve. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo etc.

Oh! Also on the CD is Madeline Kahn doing Sing After Me which I always thought was funny, if I’m remembering the right song.

Back To Skull

I did some back-to-school shopping yesterday. That felt a bit weird. My class starts tomorrow night, and I’m psyched. It’s going to be a lot of work. If you don’t see me for two years, I’ll be glued to books, papers, and a computer. Not much different than usual, come to think of it.

Mawwaige

There has been a run on engagements, weddings and conceptions lately. It’s a little unsettling. Of course I share in my friends’ happiness however it manifests itself. Lately, it just seems like the thing to do.

Last week someone told me she thinks I will be next in the wedding announcement category. Last night someone else said to me that I will probably never get married, as I’m never satisfied with anything in my life. She said that as if it was a bad thing.

Human Nature

There’s this thing about expectations. People will sometimes live up to them, but they will always live down to them.

And It Isn’t Even Over Yet

Yes, this is going to be a long entry. The title can apply to either my weekend or the entry, which is going to be long. Don’t say you haven’t been warned, twice.

This weekend so far has been great. At my job, there has been a team of three people including me who have been working frantically to pull together a last minute food and wine tasting event. It took place out on eastern Long Island, where apparently there are wonderful things like vineyards, farms, and completely undeveloped land. I had no idea that any of this existed on Long Island.

We’ve been working hard to put this event together, even though the idea of it didn’t even exist until just a little more than two weeks ago. We contacted the press, printed posters, fliers, invitations, and did what we could to promote it. We got the restaurants involved.

We came out to the site the day before the event to finish up some of the details, and it was determined we were going to have some problems with the health department due to an outside person dropping the ball with his responsiblities. At this point, we were close to cancelling the show, thinking there was no way the county department of health would allow us to run it.

After some running around, we were able to tie up the loose ends. There was still the issue of attendance, however. Since the invitations were sent out so late (due to the fact the event didn’t even exist more than two weeks before the planned date), we didn’t really expect much response. Somehow, many guests showed up to pay at the door. The health inspector also came, but he gave us few problems. The bands we had to perform during the event ranged from great to not-so-great. On the great end of the spectrum were Felix and All the Cats and Evan Farmer, who also happens to be the new host of While You Were Out. The sound company we used, Studio Instrument Rentals, was excellent and I couldn’t have hoped for better sound. They will definitely be used by us in the future.

The three of us thought there was no way this event was going to be able to be pulled off. But somehow it happened, and people came. Not only that, but the rain that had been forecast for our site held off, while all around us on the island there were heavy downpours.

While we were out on eastern Long Island, I stayed at a wonderful bed and breakfast called Hidden Mill. It was amazing. I would like to stay there more, but I don’t think I could afford the $250 per night price tag without my company completely subsidizing it.

Waiting Up

It was decided that I should be in Long Island at 7:30 am tomorrow morning. I’m not quite sure why. I don’t think I’d even be able to meet with anyone that early. In any case, I rented a car and I’m driving out there at 4:30 tomorrow morning (well, this morning).

Yawn. So I’ll be up for a little while. By a little while, I mean close to another twenty-four hours.

Over a year ago, I started working on a website project, and I’ve kind of let it lapse. I’m going to begin working on it again. I’d appreciate readers suggestions and help beta testing the website. It’s located here.

It’s a website for marching band enthusiasts (that is, geeks) and although there are some similar discussion/article-oriented websites existing now, I think this one can stand out from the crowd.

In case you’re wondering, it doesn’t use Movable Type. Maybe it should, but I’d lose some functionality.
