KC Prime Steakhouse in Lawrenceville (or West Windsor)

I know that at some point, someone is going to search online for a review of the relatively new steak restaurant in Lawrenceville (on the border of West Windsor), New Jersey, KC Prime. There isn’t a lot of information online yet, so I figured I would help out a bit.

I went to the restaurant the other night with Darren, Ali, M-D and Denise. The first thing that struck me was the construction of the building from the inside. If you looked up at the ceiling, you would see pipes and wooden supports. It’s not a big deal, but it makes the ambiance a little strange.

Our meal started off with a spinach dip appetizer. It was very tasty, but personally I like it chilled a little bit. The salads were good. I had the filet mignon and mashed sweet potatoes. The filet was perfectly tender although a tiny bit dry. We didn’t get dessert so I’ll have to go back at some point to try some. Thankfully I could easily walk to the restaurant from my apartment if I needed to.

The prices were surprisingly low for the quality of food! I expected New York prices going in. The entrees were generally $14 to $28 or so, with more of them on the $14 end of the scale. If anyone else who was there would like to share their thoughts on the restaurant, feel free to comment on this post.

  1. That’s pretty much what we all said. One day it was Seasons (“Live Music Frida”), the next day it was KC Prime. I did a double take and nearly got into an accident.

  2. Not necessarilly. It could be that whoever took over Seasons took everything over, lock stock and barrel – that would include their merchant account.

  3. I had the pork chop special with wasabi mashed potatoes and asparagus. I thought it was very very good, though I must admit, Spike’s steak was better. I’d definately like to go there again.

  4. I would imagine KC is short for Kansas City. I enjoyed a NY (New York) Strip Steak with a baked potato, both of which were quite excellent. Like Spike, I had been expecting to see NY steakhouse prices on the menu (especially since they did that trendy “cut off the cents” thing), but they were quite reasonable, especially considering that most NY steakhouses make you buy all of your side items (potatoes, veggies, etc.) a la carte. I would welcome an opportunity to eat there again – there were some other dishes on the menu that looked quite good.

  5. KC stands for the owners last names and they are the same as Seasons. I had the 24 ounce Prime Rib and wasabi mashed potatoes. It was AWESOME, but I had to eat the steak over the course of two days.
