Burrito Royale

There’s a Mexican food stand called Burrito Royale or something like that on Route 1 Southbound around the South Brunswick area. For years I would see this place, a tiny building in bad condition, and think about how it would scare me to eat there. There were never any cars there, and it looked like the hut could fall over if a strong wind passed through. I imagined all the strange diseases one could get from eating shifty Mexican food from a place like that.

Well, my father and I were driving in that direction yesterday. A minute or two after passing the hut, he and I decided we were hungry. So he turned the car around and pulled into the hut. “For twenty years, I’ve wanted to try this place out,” he told me.

Well, we ate there, and it wasn’t terrible. I haven’t gotten sick (yet) and the taste of the food was bearable. But at least now I know that the place isn’t bad, and I’d even eat there again… if I were stuck there and every other place is closed.

Movin’ On Up To The East Side

I decided on an apartment.

It’s in Jersey City, not far from the PATH Station. This means that even though I probably won’t have a car to use very shortly, I’ll still have quick access to just about anywhere I want to go.

The area around the apartment isn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t want to live there forever, and I certainly wouldn’t want to bring kids up there. It’s fine for a temporary solution.

Also, I think I actually found a good roommate. She’s a music publicist, working independently, seems to be pretty successful, and was able to have intelligent discussions with me about Pink Floyd. In any case, we got a long really well That was a big factor that went into my decision, especially after having such a bad experience with my last roommate.

In any case, I’ll be moving some of my stuff in today and will probably start sleeping there within a few days.

Also, she already has a cable modem and there would be no problem sharing it. I’ll be able to have full internet access again, including a connection for a computer running Heart Beat of Pompeii.

Once I have my laptop paid off, I think I’m going to buy one of those fancy Macs.

Trade-Off

Well, I suppose it’s a fair trade-off. While I don’t get to access the internet much, I also don’t have to pay rent. Of course finding a new place in which to live, and continuing my job search, would be a whole lot easier if I could use the internet at my leisure.

So those of you who are used to seeing me online, I probably won’t be around as much, unless you happen to be around between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning.

Back Again

Your favorite site for downloading television commercials will be back soon, as the Ad Age Group announces that it has purchased AdCritic.com. And I assume they mean all the content as well, not just the domain name.

Musicful Weekend

I had an enjoyable time at the Dar Williams concert at the Union County Arts Center. (Second row seats! Thank you, Heidi!) She seemed to be a little out of it, missing some words in her songs and a few chords here and there… but she sounded great as always.

Also, this weekend I received a surprise birthday present. It’s such beautiful music. Thank you, JessaJune!

Getting Over

Tonight’s horoscope (from My Yahoo):

Other people’s feelings are not your responsibility. Don’t let their well-being become your life project. Focus on yourself, and to reestablish a healthy structure for your life.

Why Am I So Crazy?

I decided to import my most recent Greymatter entries from fiveandtwenty.com into my journal. I also imported my older Blogger entries from my other website, but I had to go through and do a lot of editing, removing references to my prior workplace and taking email addresses out so spam robots won’t find them. It’s quite a chore. Unfrotunately, there’s still about five months of posts that I’m missing.

Just My Luck

As some of you know, I am contemplating moving far away from here. Maybe to the Baltimore area, maybe Washington, maybe Seattle.

So I took CNN’s Best Place To Live quiz which takes your preferences and matches you up with the most appropriate US location. It’s completely personalized and your detailed results, a listing of thirty cities, are unique for you.

So I took the quiz and it told me I should pack up all of my things and move…

… to New York. To quote my friend Charlie, “AAAAAAAUUUUGGGHHH!”
