My Weekend, or Why Cats Paint

Friday night, I drove down to D.C. to meet up with some friends. We moved furniture (seems to be a theme lately), ate at the Cactus Cantina, played a good amount of You Don’t Know Jack on Gwen‘s PlayStation, and visited the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. I now feel it is safe to add “the D.C. area” to the list of places I would go if I were to leave New Jersey.

  1. Cats paint because they are predisposed to both marking their territory and aesthetic representations of their psyche… according to Heather Busch. That is, if you take what she says for what it is worth, which you might not want to do.

  2. Darren- I don’t mean leave permanently. Just on weekends. You could go…. to Boston, D.C., Philadelphia, the Poconos, NYC, Connecticut, Newport R.I., etc. You could go camping, hiking, whitewater rafting, tubing, kayaking, etc. You can be a local tourist and see things you drive past every day but never actually “see”. You can go to the Renaissance fair in the fall…..

I do stuff almost every weekend. You just have to look for it.

  3. Oh, I guess that’s what I’m saying, Alissa. I envy people like you who do stuff like that. I understand that you’re saying you have to look for it….but WHERE do you look? How do you find that stuff?

  5. AAA is a good place to start. If you belong to AAA you can go and get free tour books to anywhere in the country. Just flip through it to find something interesting.

Or try the internet. When I wanted to go whitewater rafting in the Poconos, I typed in “Whitewater rafting Poconos” and got all the info I needed.
