Public Service Announcement?

While being anti-drug, a radio commercial I heard this morning on the way to work was also “anti-band.” The commercial was sort of like this:

Narrator: It’s nearly impossible to tell who the drug users are just by listening to them talk…

Kid Number One: So who’s coming to my house after school?
Kid Number Two: I’ll be over after the soccer game.
Kid Number Three: I’ll be over after band practice.
Kid Number Four: I’ll be over after the Chess Club meeting.

Narrator: Did you pick out who the drug user was? No? Here’s who it was:
Kid Number Three (repeats): I’ll be over after band practice.

Funny, I was able to pick it out. I had hoped it was going to be the Chess Club kid, but it’s always the band geek. 🙂

  1. Band camp was always a mystery to me. Sure, everyone came back with stories, but I still couldn’t understand what was happening at band camp – and why it couldn’t be done at home…

  2. Band camp was a time, especially for freshmen, to really get to know everyone you’d be spending the next several months with. Going away for a few days helps the group concentrate on getting their show learned without distractions.

  3. Yeah, but there was a lot of craziness that went along with that. I mean, sure, you worked your butt off during the day, but strange things happened at night. I think maybe it had something to do with the presence of the cows…

  4. I think that people who go through band camp feel like they’ve gone through this really hellish experience, something that only other band geeks could possibly understand. I think that’s why everyone in band dates everyone else in band… it’s like an us/them kind of feeling. It’s kind of funny looking back on it all….

i still dont understand why they “cancelled” band camp. i mean, how much fun can you have having a sleepover in the school?

  6. I am in band at this current time and i would like to state the fact that not all band members do drugs…yes i admit it some do, but some of the football players do to and so do the basketball and the cheerleaders, and the dance team members. You cannot characterize one group of people as the druggies of the school. Because there are so many groups. Just because the band members act a little insane is not because they are on drugs it is because band is like an adrinilin rush. We like band so much that it is like a drug….you could say….band is addicitive. If you were in highschool and you joined band eventually you would be addicted to it unless you were not ment to be a band geek then you would just act normal and you would think everyone in band was really really weird.
